From U.S. Presidents, Foreign Kings and Princes to Paris Hilton and P. Diddy, Whitney has interviewed all walks of life. This Emmy Award-Winning television personality, CNN-journalist and popular newspaper columnist can now add author to her repertoire of experience. Her book, THE MAN PLAN (Penguin-Perigee) is slated for a January 2009 release.
In addition to her book and weekly column in one of the country’s top ten newspapers, Whitney has appeared on nearly every major network including: NBC’s Today Show, The CBS Early Show, CBS News, ABC News, CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, ESPN, Extra, VH1 and MTV. For the past two years, she has served as host and senior producer of a successful live daily talk show airing on a CBS affiliate. Whitney was instrumental in the show’s creation, development, production and content selection. She has also lectured at a number of Colleges and Universities nationwide and currently teaches journalism weekly, at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting.
It was cable news that landed Whitney on the media map. As one of CNN’s youngest
correspondents, she burst onto the national scene, reporting for the 24 hour news network and sharing Headline News anchoring duties. During her tenure as a television news journalist, she has been live-on-the-scene for a number of the country’s most gripping breaking news stories including the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy, the crash of American Airlines Flight 587, the Anthrax Investigations, Elian Gonzalez’s custody battle and Florida’s 2000 Presidential Election recounts. Journalism, storytelling and writing are her forte. However, a foray on the Red Carpet called. Whitney has also covered the Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award shows. In addition to Hollywood superstars, she has interviewed a number of the world’s most influential people from politicians and CEO’s to top athletes and artists. Some of the headliners include former Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Apple founder Steve Jobs, King Abdullah II of Jordan, actors Tom Hanks and John Travolta and other celebrities such as Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and Indianapolis Quarterback Peyton Manning.
Whitney also has international work experience in the Middle East and Europe. In 2004, she was invited by Prince Albert of Monaco to lead a panel of the world’s top media leaders in an international media ethics debate held in Monte Carlo. Additionally, Whitney has worked with the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, assisting in the creation of the Forum of Young Global Leaders. She attended the Forum’s Arab Summit in Jordan, working closely with King Abdullah and Queen Rania. Another nonpartisan international project Whitney has worked with is the Clinton Global Initiative. She was honored to be part of a small think tank that worked closely with President Clinton and his foundation to create and develop the project’s core concepts and inaugural meeting held in New York City. The initiative is now in its fifth year.
Before working at an international level, Whitney anchored for ABC News in New York, where she read newsbreaks and hosted and produced “Politics Live,” a daily political show which also aired live in Times Square, on digital TV and the Internet. As part of the ABC family, she wrote a column called “Whitticisms” for Page 2, a popular pop-culture section of ESPN.com. She has also worked as a correspondent at CBS’s flagship station in New York and prior to that, for NBC (WTVJ) in Miami. Whitney began her career anchoring and reporting for the Fox affiliate in Macon, GA.
She is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where, as a pre-med student she holds a BS in Exercise Science and was honored as an Academic All-American in Volleyball. Her latest projects include host and senior producer of “Great Day Houston”, a live talk show with a studio audience, airing daily on the CBS affiliate, KHOU in Houston, Texas. Currently, Whitney is a popular Sunday Columnist for The Houston Chronicle.
